Mixtape Reviews-DJ Drama 2 Chainz “TRU Realigion”

One artist who has straight up blown up this past year is 2 Chainz. You can’t turn on some new hip-hop without hearing him gracing nearly every new track. He is using Lil’ Wayne’s old formula of forcing himself into the public eye as much as humanly possible and creating much success in the process. 2 Chainz mixtapes have been dropping more and more frequently lately. The original and still best on is this one with DJ Drama, the official “TRU Realigion”. This was the one that started it all and the ball is still rolling strong months later. You already know that DJ Drama is an absolute career-maker, and this one is no exception.

This whole mixtape is bonkers. 2 Chainz went from his old moniker of Tity Boi to the more family-friendly 2 Chainz and stepped his whole rap game up in the process. Opener “Got One” simply pounds, while “Undastatement” has some of the best one-liners I have heard in a while, and now has a sick new video for it as well. You can’t go anywhere without hearing album standout “Riot”, which now has a remix with 50 Cent that Floyd Mayweather was playing when he entered the ring to fight Miguel Cotto last month. “Slangin Birds” with Jeezy Yo Gotti and Birdman is a hood anthem, and One Day At A Time pairs him up with East Coast heavyweight Jadakiss in a collabo that actually works quite well. Mixtape standout is hands-down “Spend It”, with T.I., where 2 Chainz and T.I. go in on a crazy beat and just shut it down. I never get tired of hearing this song, and T.I.’s verse is extra hard on here.
